Who we are and what we do

About Us

Hood is all about the neighbourhood and is the core of what we do.

We love local, be it our customers, suppliers or our team.

We aim to work with a variety of local businesses and organisations as a customer, a partner or a supporter.

We love bringing the community together whether it is for a catch up with friends, a celebratory party, an impromptu dinner for two or getting the whole family together for a Sunday brunch.

As the very essence of our name suggests provenance and locality are really important to us.

We are an independent business and we love to work with people like ourselves. We work with numerous dynamic and creative businesses and individuals and we love to tell you where we get a particular ingredient or product from whether it’s a farm in Kent, a back garden in Streatham, a brewery in Brixton or vineyard in Sussex!

Sourcing is so important to us that we have even dedicated one of our restaurant walls to a corkboard map pinpointing many of our suppliers.

We deal direct when and where we can to help create, build and cement lasting business relationships and friendships. If you are interested in supplying our restaurant, please get in touch.

Mike Brown heads up the kitchen at Hood. He joined us following 6 years with the Caprice Holdings Group latterly as the senior sous chef at Le Caprice in Green Park. Dorset born and bred Mike is a local having lived on Amesbury Avenue in Streatham for 3 years and when not in the kitchen he is at home with his young family. Follow him here in Instagram

Mike is one of Hood’s owners along with Melanie Frean and Rob Davidson. Rob is the restaurant manager and oversees the restaurant operations and you will regularly find him onsite, working on the floor or behind the bar.

Hood opened in February 2015 following a true family and friend’s effort to restore a tired Edwardian property back into use as a vibrant restaurant and bar serving the Streatham community. Hood was founded by siblings Melanie and Robin Frean. Robin has since left South London to return to the sunny Sussex coast but remains in the extended Hood family as our wine consultant. You can follow him on Instagram at @Freanovino.

In 2021 we refreshed our interiors. After six years of being open, we have grown up a bit and our new interior style reflects that. Working with Shoni Wilkinson, we have kept the exposed brick walls, original Edwardian panelling and our signature blue but added warm metallics and cool greys with artwork from local artists Alixe Bovey and Krystal Wong. Other features include an art deco inspired bar, restored dumb waiter and our stunning copper leaf sign inside the front window.
